The sun is a yellow dwarf star made out of hydrogen and helium. It is about 109 times the mass of the earth with a diameter of 864,000 miles. The length of its rotation is 27 days, and at the poles it is around 36 days. The mass of the sun is 99.8% of the mass in the entire solar system. Its core is 27 million degrees Fahrenheit , but the surface is only 10,000 degrees Fahrenheit.
The sun emits solar wind, which is electrically charged gas that creates a magnetic wave throughout the solar system. the temperature of the sun is so high that the gravity of the sun can not hold it in any longer, so it releases solar wind. solar wind travels at 400 km/s, or 1 million miles an hour.
Eventually, like all other stars, the sun will die when it runs out of energy. The sun is a bit less than halfway through its lifetime. Currently, it is 4.5 billion years old. In about 6.5 billion years, it will shrink to become a white dwarf. When it dies, it will become so big that it will engulf part of the solar system, including earth.
